Music of Charles J. Campbell
One of the primary motivations for the establishment of davidbrubeck.com has been the promotion and dissemination of the works of Charles J. Campbell. I had the pleasure of serving as Dr. Campbell’s teaching assistant at the University of Miami while I was his pupil. In addition to his successes as a teacher and performer, Dr. Campbell was an accomplished composer, and scholar.
I am pleased and privileged to announce that I have been granted the rights to publish most of Dr, Campbell’s works on davidbrubeck.com.
Currently, we are in the process of having them engraved. Soon, I anticipate the availability of many of his outstanding works for trombone, bass trombone, and brass through davidbrubeck.com and miamitrombone.com. First among these will be his seminal work, Thirty Contemporary Etudes for tenor trombone, and his solo works for bass trombone with chamber music accompaniment-(solo bass trombone with string quartet; solo bass trombone with woodwind quintet; and solo bass trombone in the context of a trombone quartet).
We are pleased to offer a sample from Thirty Contemporary Etudes for tenor trombone. Please help yourself of one of these groundbreaking etudes. Future visits to davidbrubeck.com promise to bring more of Dr. Campbell’s music: free samples, recordings, and music for sale.
Please be sure to tune into davidbrubeck.com’s radio!. The trombone quartet you hear is Charles J. Campbell’s “Soliloquy a Four”. This recording features the Miami Trombone Quartet: John Kricker, Stephen Saunders, Albert Perez, and David Brubeck. This selection was written in 1990 and is a tour-de-force for trombone quartet with bass trombone solo.
